What is PVDF/ KYNAR Coating?
PVDF coatings (polyvinylidene fluoride) or Kynar® is a chemical resistant thick film barrier coating primarily used on architectural coatings that has exceptional weathering characteristics. This coating is unaffected by most chemicals and solvents and has excellent wear and abrasion resistance. PVDF coatings also have a high dielectric strength, excellent resistance to weathering and the ability to self-extinguish. PVDF coating is sprayed using electrostatic guns on aluminium and the aluminium is then baked in a curing oven at 270 degrees for 21 minutes. PVDF coating carry a 25 years warranty on aluminium for exterior finishes PVDF coatings are in great demand in the market specifically because it is available in a variety of colours and is more durable.
PVDF Process:
PVDF (Kynar) coating facility consists of four booths. Kynar coating process consists of five steps:
- Chemical Conversion
- Primer Coat
- Top Coat
- Clear Coat
- Baking
Benefits of PVDF coating
- Chemically inert and will outlast anodizing in corrosive environments.
- Long-term colour durability, particularly for cladding and facades on prestigious buildings.
- Offer nearly an unlimited selection of colors and are easy to manufacture in small batches.
- Coil painted sheet is less expensive than anodized sheet and does not craze as badly when fabricated.
- Color consistency is usually better than with anodizing
